Free calls to Lifeline from mobiles

Mobile phone calls to Lifeline, made from anywhere in Australia, are now free of charge under an agreement made between the three major phone carriers. The measure, introduced since July 1, is an attempt to remove cost as a barrier to seeking help and ensuring people can access the support they need. The Government has also provided $18.2 million over three years to Lifeline to boost the capacity of the organisation to respond to more calls and to support free calls from mobiles, and relieve potential financial burdens.
