Be part of the Pop Up Project for the Melbourne Festival
The Pop-Up Project is a playful new event set to infiltrate the city on Saturday 16 October. Part flash mob, part choreographed crowd movement in public spaces, part live-art experience, this is a unique opportunity to be part of the Melbourne Festival program and have a very special, highly personal Festival experience. And we want you! Melbourne Festival is assembling the Pop-Up Squad, a group of up to 400 participants from all walks of life who will be the makers and experiencers of this playful new project infiltrating the city on 16 October.
What will I have to do? You will be taught some basic movement sequences by choreographer Stephanie Lake in a series of workshops in the lead-up to the Festival. You will then be part of the Pop-Up Project on 16 October 2010, which will involve you moving through the city, responding to instructions and coming together to 'perform' a unique set of happenings in the city.
Who can participate? Anyone! You don't need to have movement or theatre experience - just a willingness to participate and have fun. Groups are welcome to register, especially amateur dance, movement, sporting or special interest groups.
How much time will I need to have available? You will need to attend up to two 3-hour rehearsal sessions on either the weekend of 2 & 3 October or 9 & 10 October, plus you need to be available all day on 16 October.
Sounds great! What now? Go to www.melbournefestival.com.au/popup and download a participant form and register to take part. It's that easy. Registrations close soon so get yours in today.
