The Good Shepard Buying Service can assist anyone in receipt of a healthcare card or a pension.
Services include, Discount price on household goods. Information and referral is available to other programs of this nature in other areas. Discount on some medical aids, eg. Asthma pumps.

NO INTEREST LOAN SCHEME AND STEPUP                                                                                              
Financial assistance in the form of interest-free loans (NILS) is available for families and singles on low incomes. Most loans are for essential household items including beds, refrigerators, washing machines, freezers and clothes dryers, but may be available for other needs up to $1,200. Step UP provides low interest loans to people on low incomes through community providers across many parts of Australia. Loans of between $800 and up to $3000 for personal, domestic or household purposes such as: fridges, cars, computers, furniture, medical expenses and house repairs. Interest is charged at a fixed low rate, loans can be repaid over three years and no fees apply.       |

State school relief committee
SSR provides footwear and clothing to students attending Victorian Government Schools.
Eligibility: Make an appointment with your schools headmaster, principal or student welfare co-ordinator

Family Reconciliation and Mediation Program
Family Reconciliation Mediation Program (FRMP) is a state-wide program established in 2005 through the Youth Homelessness Action Plan (YHAP) for young people aged 16 – 25 years experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Eligibility: Individual and Group Brokerage is available to support agencies via application found online at www.frmp.org.au/brokerage

Utility Relief Grant Concession
The Utility Relief Grant is for eligible cardholders who are unable to pay their mains electricity, gas or water bill due to temporary financial crisis. The amount of the grant is based on the balance owing at the time of the application and is capped at six months’ worth of usage up to a maximum of $500. This grant does not have to be paid back and is available to both private renters and home owners                                                                                                                                 
Eligibility: Must hold a Pension Concession, Health Care or DVA Gold Card and meet one of the following criteria:

  • A substantial increased in usage
  • A recent decrease in income, for example, loss of employment
  • High unexpected expenses on essential items
  • The cost of shelter is more than 30 percent of the household income
  • The cost of utility usage is more than 10 percent of the household income

Application forms can be obtained from gas and electricity retailers and water corporations.

Non Mains Energy Concession
The Non-Mains Energy Concession assists cardholders who rely on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), firewood or heating oil for domestic heating, cooking or hot water, or who access non-mains electricity via an embedded network, or who rely on a generator. Special conditions apply for the firewood concession.
Eligibility: Must hold either Pension Concession, Health Care or DVA Gold Card

Creating Connections Education Employment Pathways

Creating Connections Education Employment Pathways (CEEP) provides young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Melbourne’s North and West with brokerage funding to assist in sustaining education, employment and training.
Eligibility:  Support Agency submission - Aged between 16-25 years, homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, receiving homelessness support in the North or West areas of Melbourne, a willingness to access employment, education and training opportunities
Support offered: Brokerage of up to $1,200 per calendar year to purchase computers, school fees, books, Myki passes, uniforms and other education, employment and training related expenses.
Areas Covered: Banyule, Darebin and Nillumbik
